When tragedy strikes close to home, Mickey and his loyal new friends—sharp-witted Ema and the adorkably charming Spoon—find themselves at the center of a terrifying mystery involving the shooting of their classmate Rachel. Now, not only does Mickey need to keep himself and his friends safe from the Butcher of Lodz, but he needs to figure out who shot Rachel—no matter what it takes.
My opinion
Part one in the series about Mickey Bolitar, ‘Shelter‘ ended with such a cliffhanger that I really wanted to go on in this series. I just had to wait till my next visit to the library. When I came home with this book, I immediately started reading.
Harlan Coben has ended ‘Shelter’ with a bang and that part of the story goes on in ‘Seconds away’. You find out more about Mickey’s father, but Mickey also deals with a new ‘case’. The story lets you follow in Mickey’s footsteps, but you’ll also get some surprises when the story goes on. That makes ‘Seconds away’ an interesting story.
The way Harlan Coben writes is easy to read, not only for YA. It’s a story everyone can read, gripping until the end and it certainly doesn’t feel like a YA story. Harlan Coben made sure I was entertained until the ending, I finished the book within a day. I’m curious to read the third (and last) book in this series. If you like the books for adults by Harlan Coben, you’ll not be dissappointed in this one.
Conclusion
Harlan Coben has written a gripping thriller. ‘Seconds away is tense and entertaining until the end. Certainly not only for YA, but also adults.
