On the ruined planet Earth, where 50 billion people are confined to megacities and resources are scarce, Deedra has been handed a bleak and mundane existence by the Magistrate she works so hard for. But one day she comes across a beautiful boy named Rose struggling to cross the river–a boy with a secretive past and special abilities, who is somehow able to find comfort and life from their dying planet.
But just as the two form a bond, it is quickly torn apart after the Magistrate’s son is murdered and Rose becomes the prime suspect. Little do Deedra and Rose know how much their relationship will affect the fate of everyone who lives on the planet.
A while ago I read the ‘I hunt killers’ serie written by Barry Lyga. I really loved this serie and when I read he was going to write a book together with Peter Facinelli (maybe you know him from a movie called.. Twilight), I really wanted to read it.
A couple of weeks ago I finally bought ‘After the red rain’ and couldn’t wait to start reading. It’s basically a futuristic story and I really had to get used to that. And that took me a really long time. I really couldn’t get into the story but I really didn’t want to put it aside just because it’s Barry Lyga.
It took me a least until halfway through the story when it finally got better. I don’t think it’s the best story I’ve read this year, but the ending was cute and that made up for a lot.
I was really dissappointed that the story was not my thing, maybe my expectations were too high. I did recognise the writing style that Barry Lyga has, but the story couldn’t hold my interest for very long. Normally futuristic stories aren’t really my thing, but ‘After the red rain’ just couldn’t entertain me.
Maybe my expectations were too high when it comes to ‘After the red rain’ by Barry Lyga. It’s too futuristic for me and I couldn’t get into the story. Maybe if you like stories like this, this may be the book for you, but for me, it just couldn’t hold my interest.
