Jude and her twin Noah were incredibly close – until a tragedy drove them apart, and now they are barely speaking. Then Jude meets a cocky, broken, beautiful boy as well as a captivating new mentor, both of whom may just need her as much as she needs them. What the twins don’t realize is that each of them has only half the story and if they can just find their way back to one another, they have a chance to remake their world.
Besides ‘Lobsters’ was ‘I’ll give you the sun’ a book that I’d heard so much about and that was at the top of my wish list. Instead of reading it in Dutch, I decided to read it in English.
At the start of the book, I had a hard time to keep reading. There were so many raving reviews I’d read about the book, that those spoiled it for me. My expectations were set so high that when I started it, it was a bit of a dissappointment. But luckily I asked around and I was not alone and others also had troubles reading the first half of the book. And so I kept reading.
And that was a good thing because at one point in the book you’ll end up going ‘OMG I TOTALLY GET IT!!!’ and the book starts to be awesome and fabulous and beautiful and hard to put down. When I finished it, I totally got all the raving reviews and I fell in love with the book.
Especially the paragraph on ‘split-aparts’ was so beautiful and has become one of my ultime favorite paragraphes ever. Apart from that, the book is filled with emotion and at times it’s quite heavy. It’s such a beautiful book and I can’t believe it had such a difficult start!
Jandy Nelson has an absolute beautiful way of writing, the emotions that Jude and Noah go through are so real and at the end of the book you just want to hug them (although at times I wanted to hit them hard as well!).
Every raving review I’d read, I totally get now. ‘I’ll give you the sun’ is a must read. Just put it on top of your wishlist, if you haven’t read it yet. If you’re like me and find it difficult at the beginning, just keep on reading, the beautiful part will follow, believe me.I'll give you the sun by Jandy Nelson
