Summer has arrived in the Cornish town of Mount Polbearne and Polly Waterford couldn’t be happier. Because Polly is in love: she’s in love with the beautiful seaside town she calls home, she’s in love with running the bakery on Beach Street, and she’s in love with her boyfriend, Huckle. And yet there’s something unsettling about the gentle summer breeze that’s floating through town. Selina, recently widowed, hopes that moving to Mount Polbearne will ease her grief, but Polly has a secret that could destroy her friend’s fragile recovery. Responsibilities that Huckle thought he’d left behind are back and Polly finds it hard to cope with his increasingly long periods of absence. Polly sifts flour, kneads dough and bakes bread, but nothing can calm the storm she knows is coming: is Polly about to lose everything she loves?
I love books by Jenny Colgan, I’ve discovered her a couple of years ago, probably when I was in the UK and bought books at Waterstone’s when they have the 2 for 1 deals. I am a sucker for gorgeous covers and Jenny Colgan’s books always have beautiful covers. And then I fell in love with her writing. She always has a strong female figure, or at least one who will end up following her dreams and that inspires me to follow my dreams.
‘Summer at Little Beach Street Bakery’ didn’t dissappoint when it comes to a female figure who’ll follow her dreams. Shame though I hadn’t seen it was a part two, the first book is called ‘Little Beach Street Bakery’. You don’t really have to read the first book to enjoy the second though, because there’s enough explaining about what happened in the first book.
Again, the story of ‘Summer at Little Beach Street Bakery’ feels like a comfort blanket or a long hug. Jenny Colgan has a style of writing that feels so comfortable, I always know I’ll love the story and fall in love with whatever place the story takes place and with the characters.
If you love romance novels which will motivate you to follow your dreams, but still are absolutely lovely to read, you’ll love every single one of Jenny Colgan’s books. Go and read all of her books ;)
