#1 “New York Times” bestselling author Colleen Hoover returns with a new heart-wrenching love story. When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn’t think it’s love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her. Never ask about the past. Don’t expect a future. They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all. Hearts get infiltrated. Promises get broken. Rules get shattered. Love gets ugly.
Oh Colleen Hoover, what are you doing to me? I’ve read her books ‘Hopeless’ and ‘Losing Hope’ before, books that made me ugly cry. Colleen Hoover always knows to touch me right in the heart with her stories and reading ‘Ugly love’ made me teary-eyed several times.
What I find so attractive to the stories Colleen Hoover writes, is that they may be chicklits, but they’re not standard. She always writes about subjects that are controversial and in ‘Ugly love’ that’s also the case. You keep wondering what’s happened to Miles and who Rachel is. Those two factors makes you want to keep on reading.
The only downside (yes, really!) was whilst reading, it all seemed a bit dragged at times. The story was fine, the sex scenes weren’t too explicit, yet raunchy enough, but for me, the story could’ve used some more.
What I did like was that the flashbacks Miles has started like a normal chapter, but at some point he says ‘in the center of the page’ and the flashbacks are written in the center of the page. That’s added a real extra to the book for me.
Colleen Hoover writes amazing chicklits, which have steamy sexscenes and original storylines. ‘Ugly love’ is really that. A fabulous chicklit with a bit more depth.
